Ohio Living Capitalizes on Video to Mark Centennial

In one of the videos, Ohio Living residents talked about living with their pets (view it here).

Ohio Living, a leading senior living organization with 13 Ohio communities, leveraged the power and warmth of videos throughout 2022 to celebrate its 100 years of operation.

Shared across the company’s social and digital media channels, the series of videos ranged from 15-second snippets of resident and employee experiences to longer spotlights on the organization’s legacy. The project involved more than 30 hours of interviews and b-roll from locations throughout the Buckeye State.

“The videos enabled us to showcase our residents and incredible employees, as we celebrated a major organizational milestone,” said Mica Rees, chief brand and growth officer, who worked closely with Pecchia Communications on the video project.

In addition to shooting and editing the dozens of videos, the team prepared interview questions, schedules and logistics carefully to maximize the efficiency of the asset-collection effort. The videos enhanced a larger campaign, ‘Celebrating our 100 Year Legacy,’ which was recognized by Aging Media Network with a 2023 Aspect Award for Best Multimedia Campaign.

“By planning the shoots well in advance, we minimized the disruption to employees and residents and also gave a broad range of people nice opportunities to be part of the centennial celebration,” said Sara Pecchia of Pecchia Communications. “The planning also made it easier to reuse many of our video and sound bites for multiple purposes.”

Advice for Managing Video Project Work

Sara offers the following tips for organizations considering video project work:

Put in the prep. Coordinating logistics, thoughtfully preparing interview questions and communicating to all stakeholders in advance all contribute to maximum production with minimal disruption. Consider a production schedule that outlines blocks of interviews and corresponding locations. Ensure a dedicated point of contact from the location for unexpected snags or questions.

Add pad time. Be conservative with your timeline and overestimate the time you’ll need. Filming, transcribing, editing and other stages of a video project often require more time than you expect. It’s better to add time on the front end and over-deliver than miss a deadline.

Work smarter, not harder, and reuse quality content. Effective video and sound bites captured during an asset collection can often be leveraged for more than one use. Note reusable content with colors or key words in your interview transcripts.

Agree on a plan for review and approvals. When working with large files such as mp4s or other video file types, the review and approval stage of a project can be tedious. Home in on a plan for review and approvals that works for you and key stakeholders. For example, upload the draft videos to a dedicated Google Drive or Box folder and give all reviewers access to them. Avoid sending big files that need to be downloaded to be reviewed.
